Coloring tutorial

Soft shadows can make a character feel warmer without making the page complicated.

Keep shadows small and gentle

Instead of shading everything, choose just a few places: under the face, near the feet, inside folds or behind small accessories.

Try this

  1. Color the area with your normal base color first.
  2. Add a slightly darker version near the edge or underneath the object.
  3. Blend lightly back into the base color.
  4. Leave some white or very light areas untouched so the drawing stays sweet and clean.
